ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York Assembly members will hear from the Public Service Commission about its strategies to meet the state’s goal of obtaining 50 percent electricity from renewable sources by 2030.
Assembly committees on energy, environmental conservation, and consumer protection have scheduled a public hearing for Monday.
The commission faced criticism earlier this year for not sending any representatives to answer lawmakers’ questions about the subsidy program it approved last August. That program will cost ratepayers about $2 more per month to keep open three nuclear power plants upstate.
The program launched April 1 and has been backed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo as a way to support the state’s transition to renewables.
The hearing’s schedule includes testimony from the commission and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority.
