SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Firefighters have burned down the sole home that was ever built in a southwest Utah subdivision nearly a decade after a ground fissure opened in the community.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/2oryG2w) the Enoch home was burned down last week by the Cedar City Fire Department.

Enoch City Manager Rob Dotson says the property, which was never occupied, had become a nuisance.

It was deemed uninhabitable shortly after the $12 million subdivision went on the market in 2008 and Enoch officials discovered the fissure. The cracks in the ground are typically caused by excessive pumping of groundwater.

The fire department had been using the home to conduct training exercises under an agreement with the city that required firefights to destroy the house when they were done.

It’s still unclear what will be done with the Parkview subdivision.
