LAS VEGAS (AP) - The Latest on the investigation of the death of a 13-year-old boy whose remains were found in a makeshift grave in a vacant lot in Las Vegas (all times local):

3:45 p.m.

Police in Las Vegas say a father with a criminal history of child abuse told detectives his 13-year-old son died after he hit him in the face, and that he put the boy’s body in a makeshift grave in a vacant lot.

A police report obtained Friday doesn’t pinpoint when Aaron Jones died. But it says Aaron’s sister told detectives that Aaron disappeared in late December.

The report says Aaron was one of 13 children living with his father, Paul Darell Jones, in a one-bedroom short-stay apartment not far from where the boy’s body was found Tuesday.

The Clark County coroner said Friday a cause of death hasn’t been determined.

The 33-year-old father and his girlfriend, Latoya Williams-Miley, are facing murder charges.

No one reported Aaron’s disappearance until county Child Protective Services filed a missing person report April 14.

A father with a history of child abuse and his girlfriend are facing murder charges in the death of a 13-year-old boy whose decomposing remains were found buried in a vacant lot in Las Vegas.

Records show that 33-year-old Latoya Williams-Miley was arrested Thursday and 33-year-old Paul Darell Jones was already being held at the Clark County jail pending court appearances in the death of Aaron D. Jones.

The Clark County coroner said Friday it could take several weeks to determine how the boy died.

Police say he had been missing since December, but no one reported his disappearance until county Child Protective Services did so this week.

Paul Jones was sentenced this week to a year in jail for violating probation in a 2015 abuse case involving another child.
