PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Two Portland detectives and a state prosecutor face more accusations of misconduct for their role in convicting a man for a murder he says he did not commit.
The Portland Press Herald (https://bit.ly/2oQGya9 ) reports the 22-page document was filed by Anthony Sanborn Jr.’s attorney Amy Fairfield.
Sanborn served 27 years behind bars for the 1989 murder of a childhood girlfriend. The 44-year-old was released in early April on $25,000 bail after a witness recanted her testimony.
Fairfield alleges police hid rape allegations against a key witness, destroyed and altered evidence, and pressured a witness to testify against Sanborn.
Then-Assistant Attorney General Pamela Ames prosecuted the case. Portland Police Detectives James Daniels and Daniel Young investigated the murder. All three deny Fairfield’s allegations.
