SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Authorities have arrested a second San Francisco cable car conductor accused of stealing cash he collected from riders.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports (https://bit.ly/2pprF1U) 55-year-old David Reyes of San Francisco was arrested Wednesday. He faces embezzlement and theft charges.
Reyes’ arrest comes a week after 61-year-old conductor Albert Williams of Napa was charged in a similar case.
Investigations began after the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency noticed discrepancies in the fare receipts being reported by some conductors and contacted police earlier this year.
A one-way cable car ride costs $7.
Authorities have not said how much Reyes and Williams are accused of stealing.
Built in the 19th century, San Francisco’s cable cars are one of the city’s biggest tourist attractions.
