COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina state police are investigating after two Columbia police officers shot and wounded a suspect who had shot and wounded a man at a gas station.
Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook said the shooting happened around noon Wednesday at a Wal-Mart parking lot.
Holbrook said officers were called about someone acting erratically. Holbrook said as officers arrived, a man ran out of the store and toward a nearby gas station, where he shot and wounded a man pumping gas. The man’s injuries were not life-threatening.
Holbrook said the suspect then ran toward officers, firing at them. They were not hit and returned fire.
The suspect’s condition was not available.
The State Law Enforcement Division says the suspect is white, as is one officer. The other officer is black.
