LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A former Louisville police detective who served with a drug task force has been sentenced to five months in prison and five months’ home detention for stealing cash from packages at a UPS facility in Louisville.

The U.S. attorney’s office said 48-year-old Kyle Willett of Spencer County remains free on an unsecured bond following the sentencing Wednesday in U.S. District Court. A requirement of a plea agreement last year required Willett to forfeit nearly $75,000 taken from packages.

Willett worked as a drug interdiction task force officer at the UPS facility. Prosecutors said while working there early last year, Willett would identify packages that possibly contained cash and open them in his vehicle, stealing the contents on several occasions.
