Universal Studios has picked up the rights to make a biopic on Madonna’s early career, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

This makes the Material Girl just the latest pop musician to have a part of her life story projected onto the silver screen.

Hollywood has seen a spate of biographical movies based on major musicians in recent years, including James Brown (2014’s “Get On Up”), Beach Boys front man Brian Wilson (2014’s “Love and Mercy”) and rap group N.W.A. (2015’s “Straight Outta Compton”).

Titled “Blond Ambition,” the biopic based on Elyse Hollander’s script will be set in the early 1980s New York City and follow the the mononymous singer’s struggle to make it big as a pop star.

This will be Ms. Hollander’s first go at being the principal screenwriter for a project of this magnitude, but she has a few writing, directing and production credits under her belt for short features, according to the Internet Movie Database, which also lists her as an uncredited assistant to the Oscar Award-winning director behind 2014’s “Birdman.”
