DALLAS (AP) - An archive of documents from the founding and early decades of the Nation of Islam is estimated to sell at auction next month for $500,000.
The archive will be offered by Heritage Auctions on May 11 in Dallas. It’s being put up for auction by the family of Burnsteen Sharrieff Muhammad, who served as secretary for Nation of Islam founder W.D. Fard.
The black separatist religious movement traces its origins to 1930 in Detroit.
Included in the archive are meeting notes, correspondence from followers, letters, lesson plans and speech notes.
Elijah Muhammad took over the leadership in 1934. On May 13, Heritage Auctions will be offering up items that once belonged to him, including his kofia hat, expected to garner about $20,000.
