NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - The lawyer for a man charged in his 4-year-old son’s shooting death claims it was an accident.
The Virginian-Pilot reported Tuesday (https://bit.ly/2q1MsX6) that attorney Regis Rice said the toddler was playing with his father’s gun.
Rice made the statement at the bond hearing for 26-year-old Rayvon Messer. He faces charges including second-degree murder in last week’s death of Rayvon Messer Jr.
Prosecutor Jill Harris said the shooting was murder. She said evidence includes the fact that the boy was shot in the chest at a downward angle.
A judge denied bail for Messer, keeping him in jail as he awaits trial.
