FARMINGTON, Utah (AP) - A former state forensic scientist has been sentenced to spend up to life in prison for sexually abusing two children.

The Salt Lake Tribune reported (https://bit.ly/2pvSrX6 ) Monday that 55-year-old Michael Hepworth was ordered to concurrently serve the maximum sentence for each of five counts.

Hepworth had been charged last June with eight first-degree felonies and two second-degree felonies. He pleaded guilty in February to half the charges.

Court documents say Hepworth sexually abused a boy and girl who he had known for several years. The children’s mother reported the crimes last May.

Hepworth worked in the computer forensics laboratory at Utah’s crime lab.
