BOSTON (AP) - The stepfather of a 9-year-old Massachusetts boy whose heart stopped when he was hit in the chest by a baseball says the child is showing positive signs of recovery.

Thomas Hickey told the Boston Globe (https://bit.ly/2oZJt2X ) on Monday that his stepson, Eddie Quinn, is still in a medically-induced coma but scans show that fluid has cleared his lungs and his brain is functioning normally.

Hickey says they were playing baseball at a Boston playground when the boy was hit in the chest by a line drive off Hickey’s bat. Hickey gave him CPR until medics arrived. They continued CPR and used a defibrillator to restart his heart on the field.

Hickey says doctors expect to bring the boy out of the coma on Tuesday.
