Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Monday said Congress can find ways to fund the border wall so it won’t put the burden on the American people.
“Congress can find a host of ways to pay for this wall. It can be done by people who come to our country through Mexico,” Mr. Sessions said on “Fox & Friends.” “It can be paid for over time.”
The attorney general also said the wall will save money in the long term with fewer border patrol agents and other security resources being required at the border. Mr. Sessions also said it will lead to a reduction of crime throughout the United States overall.
“We get this barrier fixed. It’ll save us so much money. It’ll reduce the amount of drugs and criminals that come into the country,” he said.
As to the question of a government shutdown over the border wall funding, Mr. Sessions said that’s up to Democrats.
“It’ll be the Democrats that shut down the government down to block the funding of the wall,” he said. “That’s what the question is.”
Congress is expected to address the funding for the border wall in the spending bill due this Friday to keep the government open.
