VICKSBURG, Miss. (AP) - A Vicksburg toddler has died as a result of what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Clarion-Ledger reports (https://on.thec-l.com/2prjBhI) that the 3-year-old died Wednesday afternoon. Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey says that while it appears the child shot himself, the case is still under investigation.

Police Chief Warren Armstrong says it appears the boy was handling the gun while his father was asleep and his mother was at work. A teenage uncle was also at the home. He appears to have been asleep as well.

The name of the child wasn’t immediately released.

No charges have been filed at this time. Armstrong says there’s no evidence to indicate foul play, but items are being sent to the crime lab and an autopsy was to be conducted.
