MADRID (AP) - Masters champion Sergio Garcia performed the honorary kickoff before the Spanish ’clasico’ between Real Madrid and Barcelona on Sunday.
Wearing the green jacket from his first career major victory at Augusta earlier this month, Garcia participated in the pre-game ceremony along with Madrid captain Sergio Ramos and Barcelona captain Andres Iniesta.
Garcia was loudly cheered by the crowd when introduced and he kicked the ball near the sidelines with his left foot.
Garcia, a Spaniard, is an honorary member of Madrid, which arrived at Sunday’s league match at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium with a three-point lead over second-placed Barcelona with five rounds to go.
Madrid is seeking its first Spanish league title since 2012, while Barcelona is a two-time defending champion.
