SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Police in Northern California say two people were found dead in the middle of a street in an apparent robbery at a home where officials found an illegal marijuana grow.

The Sacramento Bee reports (https://bit.ly/2prkXsM) officers on Sunday found the two bodies lying in the road.

Sacramento Police Department spokeswoman Officer Linda Matthew says that at around the same time, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call reporting a male gunshot victim about 1.5 miles (2 kilometers) from the grow house. That case is believed to be tied to the two deaths.

Matthew says police are investigating whether the dead people were part of the grow operation or were robbing the house.

She says that violent crimes associated with marijuana growing operations have been on the rise.
