RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The head of Richmond Public Schools is leaving in June.
Richmond Public Schools said in a statement Saturday that Superintendent Dana Bedden and the school board have reached a “mutual agreement” that Bedden will leave June 30.
The district says the parties are negotiating the “specific terms of the separation.”
The Richmond Times Dispatch reports that Bedden’s contract was not supposed to end until June 2019. The newspaper reports that the announcement comes after the Richmond school board held a closed-door meeting Friday.
The school board said in a statement that it appreciates his service and wishes him well.
The school board says it will work in the next few weeks to identify an interim superintendent and outline a process to find Bedden’s replacement.
