WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - The city of Wilmington says it has seen an usual drop in applications for its summer jobs program for young people.

The city said in a statement that only 250 people had applied as of Tuesday for the 450 available positions. That leaves 200 spots open for applicants between the ages of 14 to 20.

The News Journal reports (https://delonline.us/2pNVI3Q ) that’s unusual for the program that usually has so many people interested that applicants get a spot through a lottery system.

Parks and Recreation Director Kevin F. Kelley Sr. tells the newspaper it could be due to the fact that applications were only available online this year for the first time. So the department has decided to make paper applications available until the April 29 deadline.
