Former President Barack Obama returns to public life next week with a speech at the University of Chicago, his first since leaving the White House.

Mr. Obama will hold a town hall style discussion Monday with other young civic leaders, his office announced Friday. Former first lady Michelle Obama will also join him for the trip.

The conversation is expected to focus on civic engagement and encouraging the new generation of leaders, something Mr. Obama has said he hopes to make his main goal in life after the presidency. He is not expected to address current events or President Trump’s decisions since becoming president.

Public tickets are not available for the event, which will be televised. The audience is expected to be mostly students and young people.
