CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - The mayor of Cheyenne has promised residents the city will protect the Wyoming Capitol from flooding despite the fact that a current storm interceptor project does not.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports (https://bit.ly/2pmqmRS ) that concern over flooding has come about this week because a flood-prevention project set for construction this year will not reach the Capitol.

Officials have looked into ways to reach the state building, but extending the interceptor to Capitol avenue would cost more than $5 million, and the city only has $3.4 million to spend.

Mayor Marian Orr says city officials’ plan is to extend the project’s phasing. She says the city will be able to fund and build the rest of the project before the Capitol complex renovation in complete in 2019.
