Tiger Woods announced Thursday that he underwent another back surgery to help alleviate pain in his back and leg.
“The surgery went well, and I’m optimistic this will relieve my back spasms and pain,” Woods wrote on his website. “When healed, I look forward to getting back to a normal life, playing with my kids, competing in professional golf and living without the pain I’ve been battling so long.”
Woods has not played since withdrawing from the European Tour’s Dubai Desert Classic in February. He missed the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open in his only PGA Tour start of 2017.
The 14-time major champion is scheduled to rest for several weeks before beginning rehabilitation. There is no timetable for his return to competitive golf.
“I would like to thank all the fans for staying in touch and their kind wishes,” said Woods. “The support I have received has never waned, and it really helps.”
