COLUMBUS, Miss. (AP) - Officials in north Mississippi are investigating why several emergency dispatchers skipped work last week.
Lowndes County supervisor Harry Sanders tells the Commercial Dispatch (https://bit.ly/2oS2ioZ ) that six dispatchers called in sick. He says others on standby didn’t answer their phones to report to work.
Supervisors asked the sheriff to investigate why this happened.
Sanders says an E-911 supervisor and the director had to cover the night shift April 11 and day shift April 12, after already working long hours.
He says he thinks at least some dispatchers skipped work as a coordinated protest because they didn’t get the same raises their co-workers recently received.
E-911 director Sholanda Givens declined to comment to the newspaper. Sanders says E-911 has 17 employees, with three scheduled to work each shift.
