Selfie-obsessed reality TV star Kim Kardashian West deleted a tweet after outrage on social media over her allegedly cavalier attitude towards the flu virus, which she credited with helping her lose a few pounds

“The flu can be an amazing diet,” she wrote, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“So happy it came in time for the Met lol #6lbsdown,” the wife of rapper Kanye West tweeted, referring to the Met Gala in New York City, slated this year for May 1.

THR reports that Ms. Kardashian West found herself on the receiving end of a number of critical tweets, such as this one from an Arizona woman: “Dear @CDCFlu please educate @KimKardashian on seriousness of flu. Her asinine tweet was so irresponsible.”

Others pointed out Ms. Kardashian’s responsibility as a role model to young women and girls.

“@KimKardashian to say in the public domain you are glad you got sick as U have lost weight it so irresponsible. Young girls read this!” complained one woman on Twitter, the Canadian website Global News reported.

Ms. Kardashian West boasts 51.5 million followers on Twitter where she tweets multiples times each week, if not daily.

Subsequent to an armed robbery in Paris in October in which she was detained briefly against her will, she forsook social media for three months, returning to both Twitter and Instagram in early January.

Apparently social media is not just a pastime, it’s also a “Kash Kow” for Mrs. K.

Marketwatch.com reported in January that the reality TV star — who has 89.6 million followers on Instagram and 49.3 million followers on Twitter — makes an estimated $300,000 per sponsored post, according to estimates from social media management platform Captiv8.
