Karen Handel, the Republican candidate running in Georgia’s 6th Congressional District, said Wednesday that it’s “all hands on deck” heading into the runoff election in June and that she welcomes President Trump’s support.

The former Secretary of State in Georgia, who came in second place in Tuesday’s special election, said on CNN’s “New Day” that she welcomes support from all Republicans, including Mr. Trump.

Mr. Trump, who only won Georgia’s 6th Congressional District by 1 point in November, called to congratulate Ms. Handel on her victory.

“He just called to say congrats and encourage me and let me know as we go into June 20, it’s all hands on deck for Republicans,” she said.

When asked if she thought Mr. Trump might come down and campaign with her, Ms. Handel responded, “I would hope so,” adding, “I don’t think this is about anyone person.”

Ms. Handel said she believes Democratic opponent Jon Ossoff’s strong performance Tuesday had more to do with money spent rather than real support from voters.

“They spent upwards of $10 million,” she said. “Money buys a lot when it’s a very compressed race.”

Ms. Handel and Mr. Ossoff will face off in the June 20 runoff election.
