Gov. Scott Walker said Tuesday that President Trump’s visit to his state is just the first in a series of steps needed to fix the U.S. economy.
The Wisconsin Republican said on Fox News’ “Cavuto: Coast to Coast” that the administration needs to make sure, “the people who are coming to the United States, particularly through some of the immigration programs, aren’t taking the place of American workers.”
Mr. Trump is visiting Mr. Walker’s home state of Wisconsin on Tuesday to sign an executive order requesting the Departments of Homeland Security, Justice, Labor and State come up with new rules regarding visa applications, which the White House said currently puts U.S. workers at a disadvantage.
Mr. Walker also said that tax reform was the other necessary piece to increase job growth, saying he’d cut the corporate tax rate and continue with the president’s current plan for regulatory reform.
“I wouldn’t get bogged down,” Mr. Walker said. “I would literally just cut the rate, make it easier to bring those dollars back, cut individual rates along the way if you can afford to do that, as well as the regulatory reform the president and his administration have already done.”
He urged the president and Congress to get this done soon.
“Don’t get caught up in a hundred other items. Do those things, get it done, and get it done before they go to recess in August,” Mr. Walker said.
