Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts on Tuesday tried to stiff-arm speculation about her potentially running for president in 2020, saying only that she plans to run for re-election to her current job.
“I am running in 2018 for senator from Massachusetts,” Mrs. Warren said on NBC’s “Today” program. “I am deeply blessed that the people of the commonwealth sent me to Washington to fight for them, and that’s what I’ll keep on doing.”
Mrs. Warren remained silent when host Matt Lauer offered that people are already printing bumper stickers for 2020 with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s admonishment of Mrs. Warren from February: “She was warned. She was given an explanation. Nevertheless, she persisted.”
Mrs. Warren was promoting a new book, called “This Fight is Our Fight” and tried to bat away the notion that it’s part of an unofficial presidential campaign launch.
“This is my 11th book,” she said. “My life’s work is about what’s happening to working families across this country.”
