A new Gallup poll shows a massive drop among those who believe President Trump will keep his promises.
The poll shows a 17-point drop on this question since February, going from 62 percent to 45 percent among those who believe the president will follow through on his agenda.
Although Mr. Trump saw the biggest drop here among Democrats, going from 37 percent to 16 percent, the president saw a large drop among Republicans and independents as well. Among Republicans, Mr. Trump dropped 11 points going from 92 percent to 81 percent on this question, and 16 points among independents going from 59 percent to 43 percent.
The one character question Mr. Trump held the majority on is whether he is a strong and decisive leader. Fifty-two percent believe Mr. Trump is still a strong leader, which despite holding the majority, is still 7-point drop from February’s 59 percent.
Where Mr. Trump saw the least amount of change was on the question of managing the government effectively. The president only lost 3 points here, going from 44 to 41 percent.
Since the February poll, Republicans failed to pass a piece of health care reform legislation and have not addressed any of the president’s campaign issues, such as an infrastructure plan or tax reform, possibly explaining the steep drop. Both Mr. Trump and Republicans on Capitol Hill say those issues will be discussed when Congress returns from recess next week.
