White House press secretary Sean Spicer on Monday said the U.S. is prepared for “multiple contingencies” on the heels of North Korea’s failed missile test over the weekend.
“The president and his military team were well aware of North Korea’s actions,” Mr. Spicer said on “Fox & Friends.” “Everyone in the region, especially China, [needs] to apply pressure to North Korea.”
The White House press secretary also said that the administration wants to keep an open dialogue with Russia, especially when it comes to terrorism.
“We’ve got a shared interest in curbing the threat of ISIS,” Mr. Spicer said, referring to the Islamic State terror group.
This comes on the heels of Secretary of State Rex W. Tillerson’s trip to Russia last week amid escalating tensions over U.S. airstrikes in Syria. Russia has been supporting Syrian President Bashar Assad’s government in the conflict.
“The rest of the civilized world stands with the U.S.” when it comes to the Syrian conflict, Mr. Spicer said.
