Rep. Adam Kinzinger on Monday said a pre-emptive strike on North Korea is a ’next-to-worse case’ scenario, with the country’s developing the ability to strike a U.S. ally with a nuclear weapon the worst-case scenario.
“To me, the absolute worst-case scenario is North Korea has a nuclear missile it can deliver on any of our allies,” Mr. Kinzinger, Illinois Republican, said on CNN’s “New Day.”
“Next to the worst is a pre-emptive strike,” he said. “So, this is the last-case scenario.”
“This is dead serious, and this will be up to the experts in the military to say, here’s the point at which there is no return beyond it, and hopefully we never get there because that’s a next-to-worst case scenario,” he said.
Mr. Kinzinger said he does think the White House is doing what needs to be done in handling the situation.
“The diplomatic instrument of power is best and most effective when backed up with the military instrument of power,” he said.
