RONKONKOMA, N.Y. (AP) - A Long Island man has used his rowboat to rescue three teenagers whose canoe overturned on a lake.

Jeff Miller tells Newsday (https://nwsdy.li/2oqDwKq ) that he was working in the yard of his home near the shore of Lake Ronkonkoma in Suffolk County on Wednesday afternoon when he heard people crying for help.

The 60-year-old Miller says he spotted three people clinging to an overturned canoe. He carried his 8-foot rowboat to the lake and rowed out to them. Miller pulled all three teens - a 17-year-old and two 14-year-old boys - into his boat and brought them to shore. The teens didn’t have life jackets.

Police say the teens were taken to hospitals for hypothermia.
