Sen. Chris Murphy blasted President Trump’s airstrikes against Syria as “illegal” and “adding to the policy of chaos.”

The Connecticut Democrat argued on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Thursday that Mr. Trump should have come to Congress for authorization first, but that airstrikes are an unlikely option with the administration’s refugee policy.

“It’s dizzying” said Mr. Murphy adding, “[With the] inhumane refugee policy that this president has, I don’t think [airstrikes] makes sense.”

Mr. Murphy says such authorization is required and should have “chilled” President Obama’s use of the term “red line” back in 2012 since presidents are required to get congressional approval before launching such attacks.

As a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Mr. Murphy said that he didn’t believe the polarization in Congress would prevent authorizing airstrikes, but added, “If we didn’t, [it’s] for good reason.”
