ST. LOUIS (AP) - The Latest on Sen. Claire McCaskill’s town hall series in Missouri (all times local):

Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill has been greeted by a standing ovation at a town hall meeting, a far cry from the hostile crowds many of her Republican colleagues in Congress have experienced since the November election.

An overwhelmingly supportive crowd of about 150 people turned out Wednesday for the Missouri senator’s event in Hillsboro, about 45 miles southwest of St. Louis. She plans seven other town hall meetings this week, all of them in counties Donald Trump carried easily in the presidential election.

There was no open microphone at the Hillsboro event. McCaskill read questions that were submitted in writing.

She drew applause for expressing support for Planned Parenthood. She called for a thorough investigation of potential Russian meddling in the election, but said it’s too soon to talk about impeachment. And she urged colleagues on both sides of the aisle to “fix the problems of Obamacare.”

In a year when congressional town hall meetings have often turned angry, Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill is wading into predominantly Republican areas of Missouri to host a series of them this week.

McCaskill’s first town hall will be Wednesday at Jefferson College in the eastern Missouri town of Hillsboro. She also plans to meet with constituents Wednesday in Sikeston and Fulton; on Thursday in Hannibal, St. Joseph and Parkville; and on Friday in Springfield and Rolla.

Some of McCaskill’s Republican counterparts have heard from angry crowds of opponents of President Donald Trump’s early agenda at town hall meetings. McCaskill says it is important for her to be accountable and allow constituents to share their criticisms and concerns.

McCaskill is in her second term and is up for re-election in 2018.
