President Trump on Tuesday said he recently tried to bargain with President Xi Jinping of China over the North Korea situation — but also provided assurance that the United States will “solve” the problem if China decides not to help.

“I explained to the President of China that a trade deal with the U.S. will be far better for them if they solve the North Korean problem!” Mr. Trump tweeted.

“North Korea is looking for trouble. If China decides to help, that would be great. If not, we will solve the problem without them! U.S.A.” the president also tweeted.

Mr. Trump and the Chinese president held a high-profile meeting at Mr. Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida last week.

The U.S. also sent an aircraft carrier-led force toward the Korean Peninsula recently in the wake of recent missile tests from North Korea.
