The case of the flu has become so bad for the Boston Red Sox that the team had to fumigate the clubhouse while they were away on a recent road trip to get rid of the germs.
A team spokesman confirmed to Boston.com Tuesday that the team used foggers for the clubhouse and disinfected the common areas to prepare for an upcoming seven-game home stand.
Nine Red Sox players have dealt with the flu this season, including Boston’s top players in Mookie Betts and Andrew Benintendi.
Even the Red Sox’ play-by-play announcer, Dave O-Brien, has the bug, causing him to stop broadcasting duties midway through Saturday’s game because he got sick, according to ESPN.
The Red Sox are 3-3 this season.
