An old-school video game cheat code will unlock a silly hidden feature on the Bank of Canada’s website.
Visitors to the Bank’s web page devoted to the new $10 note can enter the “Konami code” — up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, b, a — on their keyboards to start an animation of $10 falling from the top of the page to the strains of the national anthem “O, Canada,” CTV News reported Monday.
“The Bank of Canada’s web team thought the Konami code was a fun way to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation,” Bank of Canada spokeswoman Josianne Menard said, CTV News reported.
According to the Bank of Canada website, the new $10 note will enter circulation on June 1, exactly one month ahead of the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the Dominion of Canada as a self-governing federal union.
Further U.K. legislation in 1931 and 1982 effected full statutory and constitutional sovereignty, respectively, for Canada, which nonetheless retains the British monarch as head of state.
