RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. (AP) - An aerospace and defense company based has announced plans to relocate or eliminate 1,100 jobs and shut down manufacturing operations in the Northern California city of Rancho Cordova.

The Sacramento Bee reports (https://bit.ly/2nZuxOi) Aerojet Rocketdyne Inc. made the announcement Monday.

The company’s rocket engine manufacturing operations will be consolidated in a new plant in Huntsville, Alabama. Defense-related program management and engineering positions will also be moved to Huntsville, while some employees will be relocated to the company’s space headquarters in Los Angeles.

The jobs will be moved by the end of 2018.

Aeroject spokesman Glenn Mahone says 300 employees will remain in Rancho Cordova to work in finance and other departments.

Aerojet Rocketdyne CEO Eileen Drake says the company is working to create annual costs savings of $145 million.
