JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) - A Jackson snowboarder was hurt in an avalanche.
Grand Teton National Park officials say 26-year-old Alex Thompson’s injuries aren’t life-threatening. He was taken to St. John’s Medical Center after Sunday’s mishap.
Park officials say Thompson set off the slide at the top of a feature called the Air Force Chute. The 1-foot-deep avalanche carried him 1,000 feet downhill over rocky terrain.
Ski patrollers from nearby Jackson Hole Mountain Resort carried him to a place where a search and rescue helicopter could pick him up.
Park officials say Thompson was wearing a helmet and carrying an avalanche beacon.
