EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - Dozens of mourners attended a visitation for a disabled Evansville woman found slain in March, eight months after she vanished.

The Evansville Courier & Press reports (https://bit.ly/2oswo26 ) that a small teddy bear sat on top of 19-year-old Aleah Beckerle’s casket during Monday’s visitation at an Evansville funeral home.

Aleah’s mother, Cara Beckerle, says a morgue employee placed the stuffed animal with Aleah so that her daughter “wouldn’t be alone.”

A private funeral service was scheduled for Tuesday.

Beckerle disappeared from her home on July 17, 2016. Her decomposing remains were found March 27 in a vacant Evansville house. An autopsy report remains pending.

A 24-year-old Evansville man faces murder and kidnapping charges in Beckerle’s killing.
