SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - The search for a new superintendent of Savannah-Chatham Public Schools is expected to draw around 700 applicants from around the country.
Savannah Morning News reports (https://bit.ly/2pljPD4 ) that School Board President Jolene Byrne says that 400 applications have been processed in advance of the April 12 deadline. The school board is offering a $300,000 salary to replace retiring superintendent Thomas Lockamy.
Search firm Ray & Associates has been hired to screen applicants. The firm will provide a shortlist of 10 based on public input and surveys of community stakeholders. This is the first time the search firm will procure candidates following its presentation of former Superintendent John O’Sullivan in 2001, whose tenure ended in the district’s probation with its accrediting agency.
The board expects to name a new superintendent June 7.
