I take exception to the part of the recent CNN poll that states 50 percent of the population believe Donald Trump is honest and trustworthy compared to 35 percent for Hillary Clinton.

While Hillary has been caught red-handed serial lying over a series of issues and even stealing government-owned property out of the White House, I’m having a hard time digesting that anyone would find her honest and trustworthy.

In contrast, I’m having an equally hard time digesting that only 50 percent of the population find Mr. Trump honest and trustworthy. From the very first day of his campaign he has repeatedly and adamantly stated that he would build a wall on our southern border. Who doesn’t believe him when he says that he means absolute business about this central campaign tenet that enthusiastically charges up his rallies?

In fact, I believe it’s because people do believe him and find him honest that miscues the poll question and ultimately the results. Most everyone believes Mr. Trump is honest about his policies which he claims will make America great again. They just don’t like it — or him — so they answer the question negatively. When it comes to honesty and trustworthiness, the honesty gap between the candidates is dramatically wider than 15 points.

If someone actually says they believe Hillary Clinton is honest and trustworthy, perhaps a follow-up question could be, “Really? Do you really believe someone who routinely serial lies and recklessly puts our national security at risk?
