After trimming the roster to the 53-man limit, the Washington Redskins began signing players to the practice squad on Sunday afternoon.
Running back Mack Brown, who had three separate stints on the practice squad in 2015, re-signed after getting waived on Saturday, according to a person familiar with the situation. He led the league with 227 rushing yards in the preseason. Brown had a strong performance in the fourth preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, rushing for 149 yards and a touchdown.
The Redskins also signed wide receivers Kendal Thompson and Maurice Harris, according to people familiar with their situations. Harris, undrafted out of California, often stood out in training camp amongst a stacked position group, which at one point featured 13 wide receivers on the 90-man roster.
Joe Kerridge was the lone fullback on the Redskins roster in training camp and also signed to the practice squad, his agent Nate Litwin tweeted. The Redskins do not have a fullback on the 53-man roster, though tight end Niles Paul lines up in the backfield at times.
According to other reports, outside linebacker Lynden Trail, offensive tackle Isaiah Williams, and guards Vinston Painter and Nila Kasitati signed to the practice squad.
Throughout camp and the preseason, it appeared Trail would push for the fourth outside linebacker spot on the active roster, but Trent Murphy moving from defensive end back to outside linebacker hurt his chances.

With eight players signed, the Redskins can only add two more to the practice squad.
