Television’s famous “Wonder Woman” says she drew inspiration for a new role from Democrat presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton.
Lynda Carter’s superhero days from the 1970s may be far behind her, but she will soon portray the U.S. commander in chief on the second season of CW’s “Supergirl.” The actor told Variety that Mrs. Clinton served as a template for the character.
“I used Hillary to prepare,” Ms. Carter said Tuesday. “I saw the way she can be warm and funny and inviting and serious. Hillary is much more human than Wonder Woman. She has flaws, but we are all flawed and we learn from our mistakes. I think she is a role model in the way she has paved the way for women.”
The actor and singer also weighed in on Monday’s first presidential debate between Mrs. Clinton and Republican opponent Donald Trump, as well as what international friends think about the current state of American politics.
“I thought she was brilliant,” Ms. Carter told Variety. “To me, the choice is clear. The first thing you hear when you travel is people asking you, ’has America lost its mind?’ I understand that people want change, but change just for change sake isn’t a good thing. You don’t hire the snake oil salesman to run your company. You don’t hand over your keys to someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing.”
The season premiere of “Supergirl” will air Monday, Oct. 10 at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
