In July, Watt underwent surgery to repair a herniated disk in his back. It is not known if this most recent back injury is related to the offseason surgery, but it is believed Watt is again dealing with a herniated disk.
Watt played in three games this year, recording 1.5 sacks. The 27-year-old ranks 12th among active players in total sacks, with 76 since 2011.
The Texans game against the Tennessee Titans this Sunday will be the first NFL game Watt has missed in his entire career.
Watt offered a heartfelt message following his diagnosis.
Adversity sucks. Your attitude towards it doesn’t have to. I will be back.
