Hillary Clinton leads Donald Trump by 7 points in a four-way match-up in the battleground state of New Hampshire, according to a poll released Friday that showed voters in the Granite State, by a 3-to-1 margin, thought Mrs. Clinton won Monday’s presidential debate.
Including leaners, Mrs. Clinton was at 42 percent, Mr. Trump was at 35 percent, Libertarian Gary Johnson was at 13 percent and Green Party candidate Jill Stein was at 4 percent, according to the WBUR poll.
Head-to-head, Mrs. Clinton, the Democratic nominee, led Mr. Trump, by 9 points, 47 percent to 38 percent.
The survey was taken from Tuesday through Thursday.
“She had what appeared to be a very good performance. Voters rated it very positively in the debates,” says Steve Koczela, president of the MassINC Polling Group, which conducted the WBUR survey. “And she seems to have stopped the slide that she was experiencing going into the debate.”
Indeed, the post-convention bump that Mrs. Clinton had enjoyed in many surveys after the Democratic National Convention in July had all but evaporated in some polls in recent weeks.
Mrs. Clinton had been coming off a rough stretch in which she faced renewed questions about her health after nearly collapsing at a 9/11 memorial event. She also said earlier this month that half of Mr. Trump’s supporters belong in a basket of “deplorables” and continued to face questions over the private email set-up she used as secretary of state.
In a WBUR poll taken immediately after the Republican and Democratic conventions over the summer, Mrs. Clinton had led Mr. Trump by 15 points in a four-way contest in New Hampshire and by 17 points head-to-head.
In the new poll, four out of five voters said they watched Monday’s debate between Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Trump. Of those who watched the debate, 59 percent said Mrs. Clinton won and 19 percent said Mr. Trump won, though majorities said the debate made no difference in whether they planned to support either candidate.
