PHOENIX (AP) - A former Arizona governor’s ashes were taken on a tour of local sites before they were buried in a Phoenix cemetery.

The Arizona Capitol Times reports (https://bit.ly/2cGDg7j ) that former Gov. Rose Mofford died Sept. 15 at age 94. Her friends and family held a private funeral service and a public celebration of her life is being planned.

Before the service, Mofford’s ashes were driven to several sites bearing her name or personal significance.

Mofford spent 51 years as a state employing, including nearly three as governor, and had close ties to the Phoenix community. Her funeral was attended by the owner of a restaurant she frequented, her hairdresser and a former softball teammate from the 1930s.

The graveside service was held by the St. Francis Xavier parish’s Father Dan Sullivan.
