AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Former Texas state Sen. Wendy Davis is calling Donald Trump’s tweet storm targeting an ex-beauty pageant winner “mindboggling.”
On a media conference call Friday, Davis said Trump’s twitter “rant” shows he lacks presidential temperament.
In pre-dawn tweets, Trump criticized 1996 Miss Universe winner Alicia Machado’s sexual history, referencing what he called her “sex tape.” He apparently meant footage from a 2005 Spanish reality show, when Machado appeared in bed with a male contestant.
Davis said, “It’s mindboggling, quite honestly” that a presidential candidate is “demonstrating such an unhinged way” of publicly communicating. She added: “It’s got a lot of people concerned.”
Davis has been mentioned as a possible challenger to U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz’s 2018 re-election bid. But she said Friday: “I am not looking seriously” at a Senate run.
