MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont Attorney General William Sorrell says there’s no evidence a political action committee of the Republican Governors Association coordinated the production of three television ads with the Republican gubernatorial candidate.

The Vermont Democratic Party charged that the group A Stronger Vermont coordinated with the Lt. Gov. Phil Scott’s campaign when it produced the ads, which used close-ups of Scott. Scott’s campaign denied wrongdoing. The RGA didn’t respond to a request for comment.

On Thursday, Sorrell, a Democrat, said the complaint didn’t provide evidence of prearrangement or coordination between the group and campaign.

Sorrell says the legal threshold to trigger a civil investigation requires “more than mere speculation as to a violation.”

He says the video appears to have been filmed at public venues and publicly advertised on Scott’s campaign website.
