A key freeway in Las Vegas remains snarled heading into the evening commute - more than three hours after a man running from police was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer.
Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Chelsea Stuenkel said Thursday just one southbound lane of U.S. 95 is squeezing past the crash scene near Flamingo Road southeast of downtown. Severe backups are reported.
Northbound freeway traffic is being detoured onto Flamingo Road for a 4-mile detour to Boulder Highway and back to the freeway.
Las Vegas police Officer Larry Hadfield says the fatal crash happened a little before 11:30 a.m.
He says detectives investigating a shooting last week wanted to talk to the man, but he failed to stop for a marked patrol car and then got out of his vehicle and ran on the freeway.
Hadfield says the Sept. 22 shooting left a man wounded in a parking area of a mobile home park on Boulder Highway not far from where Thursday’s chase occurred
