LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - A 22-year-old has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and a gun charge for shooting up a Lincoln home last November, killing a Plattsmouth man and leaving a Bellevue man injured.
The Lincoln Journal Star (https://bit.ly/2daGNfR ) reports that Brandon Benson said in Lancaster County Court on Wednesday that he intended to scare the people inside the home.
Authorities say Benson fatally shot Richard “Ricky” Randall Jr., 19, in connection with a drug deal Nov. 29, 2015. Angok Wal, 18, was wounded.
Benson blamed others at the house that night, saying people there had threatened him, his mom and his sister through Facebook messages and told him to meet them at the house to fight. He said one of them told him to bring a gun.
Benson’s sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 30. He faces a minimum of 25 years in prison and a maximum of life in prison.
Two other men entered guilty pleas Wednesday in the incident.
Joseph L. Bratt, 21, pleaded no contest to attempted robbery. His sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 25.
Joshua Lock, 22, pleaded no contest to being an accessory for providing the gun used. His sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 22.
Randall’s mother, Denell Hodges Randall, said Benson has caused her family pain, anguish and agony.
“We were robbed,” she said. “My son was a good kid. Because of drugs, and gang activity, he’s gone. It didn’t have to happen. There’s no sense to this event at all.”
