SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - The Hirsch Coliseum in Shreveport has reopened after undergoing a remodeling project.
The Shreveport Times (https://bit.ly/2cDwYW0 ) reports that the building celebrated its reopening Tuesday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The remodeled building now features new seats, a video board and luxury suites. It will host hockey games, public skating, birthdays and more.
“The building has never looked as good as it does today,” Chris Giordano, the president and general manager of the State Fair of Louisiana, which owns the Hirsch.
On Thursday, George’s Pond at the Hirsch Coliseum will host its first hockey game in years when the Mudbugs kick off their season.
The remodeling project was made possible by a $2 million investment from Encompass Sports, a group owned by the former owner of the Mudbugs, Tommy Scott.
Scott Muscutt, a former coach and player for the Mudbugs, worked with Scott to help bring hockey back to town. Muscutt was the first player signed by the Mudbugs in 1997. He played for the team for three seasons and coached for 11 seasons.
“We have a passionate group who wants Shreveport to have something of its own,” said Muscutt. “Shreveport is worth staying in, partying in, playing in and having fun in.”
